Reception Theory

 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

Preferred reading of a media text is when the producer chooses how their audience want to perceive the media text.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

This is when the audience create their own meaning for the media text and ignore what the producer is trying to show / portray.

3)  How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

The Harry Brown trailer portrays the teenagers as Violent and aggressive causing the audience to respond to them as crazy and ruthless teenagers with no future or life ahead of them.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

Young people would reject this accusation and construct an oppositional reading to the trailer as not all of the teenagers are like this and it will set a bad example of them if the accusations continue.

Big Mac Advert

The preferred reading of the text is to show how delectable and large the big mac is and the vegetables placed in it are more colourful and broad to give the perspective of healthy.

The oppositional reading of this advert is the audience making their own assumptions such as even though there are vegetables inside there is more of the bad ingredients such as cheese and really old and fried stuff such as the beef.

A negotiated reading is that the audience may see the big mac's ingredients as unhealthy however also agree that someone of the ingredients used such as their fresh crispy lettuce is good for you making it a balanced meal.
