Preliminary exercise tasks: Celebrity Gossip Magazine

 Initial Tasks: planning


Before creating anything in Media you need to plan out exactly what you are going to do. You need to complete the following planning tasks on your blog before you can film anything:


1) Write a 100 word statement of intent explaining what you are going to make for your preliminary exercise.

For my preliminary exercise I am going to do a magazine about change regarding knife crime in the streets of London. My article will analyse a man called Ashan ruthlessly killing people while a celebrity called Ali Aban helps him put down his weapon.

The first page will show a high quality image of Ashan holding the knife with a serious expression and showing anger in his eyes holding an illegal blade as we zoom in on the other photos

The second page will show the celebrity Ali Aban helping Ashan the perpetrator holding the knife to lower it and helping the attacker to sit on the sidewalk and talk as we zoom in on another photo of them talking together whilst the celebrity holds out a book called positive changes. 


 

2) Write an outline for your preliminary exercise on your blog. This needs to include talking points and photo lists. To see how a magazine is presented, and to look at professional examples, check out the following link which gives lot of tips and tricks on how to layout and plan your magazine.

3) Casting: Who will be in your magazine? Ali Aban the celebrity and Ashan the perpetrator who is holding the weapon

4) Plan your locations: Where you will shoot your preliminary exercise? (You can take photos off-site if you wish to do this for homework - this is what we would strongly recommend). Important note: You CANNOT take any students out of any other lessons OR disturb any other lessons in the school. If you wish to take shots in-school then you will need to shoot with Mr Ray supervising or after school with a Media teacher present. 

Greenford alleyway and a random park with a wall full of graffiti to show the anger and revolt of the people whilst the celebrity helps a man to change for the better.

5) Write your shot list: every shot you plan to film. This needs to be far MORE shots than you will actually use in the final edited version - plan extra angles, close-ups, long shots and more. You can find an example shot list here. This is for a narrative film but the layout will be the same. 

The shots should include a zoom in to show the weapon the perpetrator used and his facial expressions showing hatred. Also my shots should include a zoom out to show how the surrounding of the area shape the perpetrators anger and hatred. Also a low angle will be used to show the celebrity being a big shape of the community. Many other shots such as a possible drone shot could be used to show the surroundings.

Film Industry: Black Widow
